Let's Read Book [Kitap Porhu Aaha (কিতাপ পঢ়ো আহা)]: The 1st event of the Women Librarians’ Association of Assam (WLAA) was planned aiming at inculcating reading habits among the children and that’s why the event was entitled “Kitap Porhu Aha”. The event was organized on a beautiful morning on 31st January, 2020 with the children at Assam Sishu Kalyan Sadan(ASKS), Jalukbari, Guwahati-781014 in the presence of Mr. Adhir Ch. Das, Working President, ASKS, Mrs. Dipika Choudhury, General Secretary, ASKS, Dr. Sandhya Pathak, Joint Secretary, ASKS, Mrs. Dipali Mazumder Deka, President, ASKS and Meenakshi Borthakur, Psychologist, ASKS.
The programme started with an introductory speech by Dr. Kankana Baishya, General Secretary, WLAA, followed by a keynote speech by Dr. Jyotika Devi, President of WLAA. The keynote speech was encouraging and wonderfully articulated enough to inspire and attract the students towards reading habits. To add more meaning to the event, a storytelling competition was conducted and out of 31 girls, 15 actively participated in that competition. Out of 15, the top 5 girls who performed well were given away certificates along with some quality books. Nevertheless, the books were distributed among all the 31 girls to motivate them to read. The remaining 12 books were donated to the Library of Assam Sishu Kalyan Sadan. The books amounting Rupees three thousand three hundred and ninety only (Rs.3,390/-) were donated to Assam Sishu Kalyan Sadan. Packet lunch was also provided for all the members of the Sadan. The girls also showcased their yoga talents to all the members present.
Mrs Bonti Borah, Working President, WLAA, Mrs Jaya Medhi, Vice President, WLAA and Dr. Babita Kalita, Joint Secretary, WLAA also shared their views with the encouraging words on inculcating reading habits. Mr. Adhir Ch. Das, extended his heartfelt thanks to WLAA for the initiative and the meeting successfully ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Jyotirekha Bhattacharyya, Treasurer, WLAA.
